About Me

To see what I am currently talking about in the education field, check out my Twitter feed below.

I was born and raised in outport Newfoundland many years ago. One town I lived in had just over 300 people, while other towns I lived in had a couple thousand. I spent my teenage years in the metropolis of St. John's, which at the time had just over 100,000 inhabitants.

I have a passion for technology, especially mobile technologies. This passion has lead me to become certified to teach in various computer technology subjects, and to also take on the role as Ajax High School's Education Technology Leader. I am also the Department Head of the school's Business and Computer Studies department.

I attended university in Newfoundland (Memorial University), and graduated with a 4-year bachelor's degree in Arts (History and English major), a bachelor's degree in Education, and a technology education diploma.

I recently finished my Master's of Education in Information Technology. My final project included a study of laptops and Chromebooks in 1:1 initiatives worldwide, with a focus on the areas in teaching and learning that saw the most benefit from the initiative. For more details, please click here to see my dissemination website.

My studies focused on supporting teacher professional development in technology to better enable my role as my school's technology leader. I also studied the role gamification can play in the classroom, as well as leveraging web 2.0 technologies to create clusters of student networks to facilitate a connected classroom. I have recently obtained my Google Certified Educator levels 1 & 2 in order to support my school's Chromebook and Google project rollout, and obtained the Google for Education Certified Trainer designation.
